Main Ingredients
  • 1350 g chicken wings Ensure you pat them dry for proper crisping later.
Sauce Ingredients
  • 360 ml barbecue sauce A thick barbecue sauce is essential for the perfect stickiness.
  • 120 ml honey No substitutions are recommended as honey is central to achieving the desired flavor and texture.

Equipment

  • Slow cooker Necessary for even and gentle cooking of the wings.
  • Baking Sheet For broiling the wings to attain a caramelized finish.

Method

Preparation
  1. Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels.
  2. Lightly grease the inside of a 6-quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. Arrange the chicken wings evenly inside the slow cooker.
Sauce Preparation
  1. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the barbecue sauce and honey until smooth.
  2. Pour about three-quarters of the honey barbecue mixture over the chicken wings, reserving the remaining sauce for finishing.
Cooking
  1. Cover and cook on LOW for 3–4 hours or HIGH for 2–3 hours until tender and reaches an internal temperature of 74°C.
Finishing
  1. Carefully remove the cooked wings from the slow cooker using tongs.
  2. Arrange the wings in a single layer on a foil-lined baking sheet.
Broiling
  1. Brush the wings with the reserved honey barbecue sauce.
  2. Broil for 3–5 minutes, watching carefully, until the glaze becomes sticky and lightly caramelized.
  3. Turn the wings over, brush with any remaining sauce, and broil for another 2–3 minutes until lightly browned.
Final Steps
  1. Carefully return the glazed wings to the slow cooker, discarding excess cooking liquid first.
  2. Set the slow cooker to WARM and gently toss the wings to coat them in the sticky glaze.
